"It’s a great honour for me."

Exciting news is in store for Sajal Ali as it has been confirmed that she is to receive the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz Award.

The prestigious accolade is one of the highest civilian awards in Pakistan. It is bestowed on individuals who have brought honour to the country through their respective fields.

Sajal will receive the award at the Governor House in Lahore on March 23, 2024.

Speaking of winning the coveted prize, Sajal said:

“It’s a great honour for me to receive this prestigious recognition.

“It feels like just yesterday I had entered the industry and to be honest, it feels surreal.

“I am grateful to my fraternity, fans, and family for their constant support.”

Sajal is a highly popular and influential actress. She is known for her evergreen work in Pakistani television dramas.

She began her career as Sumbul in Nadaaniyaan (2009).

The actress has appeared in hits including Gul-e-Rana (2015–2016), O Rangreza (2017–2018) and Kuch Ankahi (2023).

She has starred in several films including the memorable Bollywood movie Mom (2017) in which she essayed the role of Aarya Sabarwal.

In Mom, Sajal was the onscreen daughter of veteran star Sridevi. It was the latter’s final film as she passed away on February 24, 2018.

In 2023, Sajal also gained recognition in British cinema, following her starring role as Maymouna in Shekhar Kapur’s What’s Love Got To Do With It?

While promoting the film, Sajal appeared in a radio interview where she clarified the spelling of her surname.

The star is often credited as ‘Sajal Aly’ but she revealed that the correct spelling is ‘Ali’.

Sajal explained: “When I started working and I had to make the Facebook accounts and all that, I had fake accounts created of me.

“So I thought that if I make my account with a ‘y’, people will think, ‘Oh, this must be her real account’.”

“But then that registered so much – the wrong thing always gets more registered than the real one.”

The event in which Sajal is due to receive her accolade is expected to be attended by prominent figures from the entertainment sector, government officials, and dignitaries.

In March 2020, Sajal married her co-star Ahad Raza Mir and the couple divorced in 2022.

On the work front, Sajal Ali was last seen in the web series The Pink Shirt (2023) opposite Wahaj Ali.
