"As the content is pure horror, it scared people."
Sadia Ayman deactivated her Facebook account following a wave of backlash over a promotional stunt for her upcoming web film, Bibhabori.
During a livestream, Sadia shared a distressing story about experiencing “paranormal activity” on her way home from a shoot.
The actress claimed she encountered a mysterious figure that left her feeling traumatised.
She said: “I’m still feeling suffocated, and I had to share this. While on the road, someone suddenly appeared in front of our car.
“We stopped and got out to check, but there was no one.”
Sadia detailed how she saw the same man standing on the road through her balcony after she came home.
After her livestream ended, many fans expressed concern for the actor’s well-being.
However, it was soon revealed that the incident was staged as part of a marketing strategy for the horror film.
Bibhabori is set to premiere on the OTT platform Deepto Play.
This publicity is similar to a previous promotional campaign for Tasnia Farin’s Nikosh, which also sparked scepticism among viewers regarding its authenticity.
A user said: “Making themselves so cheap for two rupees.”
Another wrote: “It’s not good to make fun of it like this.”
Sadia later addressed the controversy, explaining that she had been hesitant to participate in such a promotion.
However, she felt compelled to follow the platform’s direction since she was involved in the project.
Sadia said: “As the content is pure horror, it scared people.”
She further clarified that she deleted the live video shortly after it ended. This was due to the overwhelming number of calls from friends and family.
The actress acknowledged the negative impact of her actions, saying:
“I have always stood for what is right and spoken out against wrongdoing. I shouldn’t have conducted the promotion in this way.
“My intention was never to harm anyone or promote my project at others’ expense.”
Sadia emphasised that the live stream was conducted from her professional Facebook page, not her personal account.
She typically uses her page for official announcements.
Sadia added: “I understand now that the topic was sensitive and hurt people, which I deeply regret.”
She reflected on the experience, expressing gratitude for the concern shown by her fans and acknowledging the trust they place in her.
Sadia Ayman said: “I feel sorry for myself and for those affected, knowing that all this happened for the sake of promoting content.”
