A Russian man has gone viral after he married his Ukrainian girlfriend in India, complete with traditional customs.

Sergei Novikov and Elona Bramoka got married on August 2, 2022, after being in a relationship for a few years.

According to reports, Russian-origin Sergei took Israeli citizenship before getting married.

The couple tied the knot in the mountains of Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh.

It was reported that they had been living in the village of Dharamkot for approximately a year. The couple lived with a family who also helped them with their wedding.

The area is known as the Tel Aviv of Himachal Pradesh as a large number of Israeli citizens live in the region.

The marriage was a traditional Hindu ceremony and it took place at a temple in the village of Kharota.

Both the bride and groom wore traditional Indian outfits for their wedding.

Sergei wore a kurta-pyjama combo and turban while his bride opted for a red lehenga-choli and embroidered dupatta.

The wedding saw friends and relatives travel from abroad.

Vinod Sharma hosted the wedding and he said he was delighted to see foreign nationals embrace Indian culture.

He went on to say that his family performed all the rituals. This included the bride’s ‘Kanyadan’.

The locals got involved, acting as the baraat and dancing to folk songs.

The priest, Sandeep Sharma, said:

“Sergei and Elona are staying at Dharamkot near Dharamshala for the past one year with a family, which made all the arrangements for their wedding.

“Pandit Raman Sharma from our ashram recited Sanskrit hymns and solemnised their marriage, and told them about its sacred sanctity under the Sanatan Dharam traditions.”

Raman explained that he was happy to get the opportunity to solemnise the marriage of the unique couple.

He said:

“It was nice to see a foreign couple interested in Indian wedding traditions.”

“They were curious about the wedding mantras.”

Raman added that explained what the rituals were and their importance. He also translated the mantras for them.

The wedding’s menu was prepared by a local chef.

Social media users reacted to the wedding and sent their congratulations.

One said: “Congratulations Sergei and Elona!
