Rishi Sunak teamed up with a cheesemaker to create a cheese-flavoured ice cream.
The former Prime Minister visited Lacey’s Cheese in Reeth, Yorkshire, where he worked alongside cheesemaker Simon Lacey to develop a new flavour for the company’s ice cream venture, The Udder One.
Sunak said: “It was great to work with Simon on something a bit different.
“Wensleydale cheese and fruitcake is a classic Yorkshire combination, so turning it into an ice cream is a brilliant way of celebrating local traditions in a new way.”
In a video documenting his experience, Sunak expresses his love for cheese and ice cream, but admits:
“I’ve never had the two together.”
In the clip, he discusses his preferences while preparing the mixture, saying:
“I have lots of local cheeses. I am not a massive soft cheese fan, unless it’s baked – that is fine for soft cheeses. Otherwise, I like blues and smoked cheeses.”
As the ingredients came together, the MP admitted uncertainty about the pairing:
“I mean, the fruitcake I can see working, but the cheese…”
The final taste test appeared to win him over, as Sunak said it was “better than I thought”.
As he finished the bowl, the politician added:
“I will be totally honest, it’s definitely better than I thought.”
Reacting to the flavour, he said: “Oh yeah, there is cheese actually…it’s not crazy. I was sceptical.”
The video was captioned: “Cheese ice cream – I had to try it!”
The video drew positive responses online, with viewers praising the light-hearted nature of the experiment.
One viewer commented: “Such a lovely, natural video. I can’t imagine cheese ice cream either.”
Another simply wrote: “Craving.”
The unique flavour is now part of The Udder One’s ice cream range.
Simon Lacey said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Rishi into our family business, where we’ve been making cheese and ice cream for many years in the dales.

Rishi Sunak also spent time discussing the day-to-day running of the business and how the ice cream range is complementing their core cheesemaking offer.
