“State governments desperately need the money from the excise."
Bollywood star Rishi Kapoor never shies away from sharing his opinion on social media as he recently urged the Indian government to open licensed liquor stores.
Rishi Kapoor is certainly opinionated and enjoys expressing his thoughts on controversial subjects as well as matters he appreciates on Twitter.
Previously, the actor has been keeping a low profile on social media due to his ailing health problems.
However, ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 21-day lockdown announcement, Rishi has been sharing his concerns related to the outbreak of the Coronavirus.
People in India have been instructed to stay at home as a means of combatting the further spread of the Coronavirus across the nation.
As a result of this pandemic, non-essential businesses like gyms, pubs, retailers and more have been closed.
Schools and places of worship have also been closed to prevent mass gatherings.
Recently, Rishi suggested that the Indian government should authorise licensed liquor stores to open in the evening. On Twitter, he said:
“Think. Government should for sometime in the evening open all licensed liquor stores. Don’t get me wrong. Man will be at home only what with all this depression, uncertainty around.
“Cops, doctors, civilians etc … need some release. Black mein to sell ho hi raha hai.”

Rishi continued to mention that the state is in desperate need for money. He said:
“State governments desperately need the money from the excise. Frustration should not add up with depression.
“As it is pee to rahe hain legalise kar do no hypocrisy. My thoughts.”

Earlier, the veteran actor declared a state of emergency in India. He explained:
“Dear fellow Indians. We must and have to declare EMERGENCY. Look at what’s happening all over the country!
“If the TV is to (be) believed, people are beating policemen and medical staff! There is no other way to contain the situation. It is only good for all of us. Panic is setting in.”

However, it seems not everyone agrees with his suggestion. Twitter users have condemned Rishi Kapoor’s suggestion of liquor combatting depression.
Aditya Tiwari said: “Then consider this lockdown a rehab camp and live accordingly. Alcohol is not a basic necessity.”
Another Twitter user has condemned Rishi’s thought process because he is rich. Comrade said: “Rich people think in a different trajectory altogether.”
Whether you support or condemn his suggestion to the Indian government, there is no denying his outspoken nature causes a storm on Twitter.
