"He is a big bloke. He's tucking into it, it's hot."

A clip has gone viral on X after commentator Ravi Shastri ridiculed a man in the audience at the India vs New Zealand 1st Test on October 18, 2024.

In the clip, the camera pans to an Indian fan enjoying an ice cream.

Over the clip, Shastri and Sunil Gavaskar can be heard shaming the fan for having an ice cream:

“It’s hot. You need that ice cream. He’s a big unit. Where’s the ice cream boy?

“He’s hiding it because someone from his family must have told him you shouldn’t be eating ice cream, so he’s hiding it.”

The camera then pans to the match, before returning to the fan, where both Shastri and Gavaskar continue making fun of the fan:

“There he goes, out comes the cone. The ice cream is disappearing; there is only the cone left.

“That’s going through pretty quickly too!

“He is a big bloke. He’s tucking into it, it’s hot.”

On social media, netizens were shocked by the commentators’ remarks.

One X user said: “That’s not funny, Ravi Shastri, in fact, it’s disgusting!

“You’re not just body shaming someone, you’re potentially making fun of someone with a medical condition and that, on a global feed!”

Another said: “You don’t need to fat shame someone on live television. Just let him enjoy his ice cream man!”

Others found the remark hilarious and praised Shastri for bringing his cheeky remarks to the game.

One user said:

“This is the most passionate Ravi Shastri has sounded in commentary since April 2, 2011.”

Another said: “Ravi Shastri in the commentary booth was fat shaming some obese Indian dude eating ice cream in the stands. Ravi kills me man genuinely”

Shastri showed no remorse for his comments and even tweeted the video himself, saying:

“Ice cream is proof that the best things in life are cold! #IndvsNZ

During the match, Virat Kohli became the fourth Indian cricketer to score 9,000 Test runs.

Sunil Gavaskar, Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar are the only other Indians to achieve this.

This marked the end of a long performance drought for Kohli, where he scored his first half-century in a test match in nine months.

Ravi Shastri is a former India all-rounder and is one of the world’s most renowned commentators.

Besides his controversial comments in the commentary box, he has also led Team India to many historic victories as their head coach.
