Tata has been admitted to Mumbai's Breach Candy hospital.

It has been reported that Ratan Tata is in critical condition at a hospital in Mumbai.

According to two sources, the Tata Sons Chairman Emeritus remains in intensive care.

The reports come a few days after the 86-year-old responded to rumours about his health.

In an Instagram post, he said: “I am aware of recent rumours circulating regarding my health and want to assure everyone that these claims are unfounded.

“I am currently undergoing medical check-ups due to my age and related medical conditions.

“There is no cause for concern.

“I remain in good spirits and request the public and media respectfully refrain from spreading misinformation.”

According to sources, one of whom is close to the Tata family, and both with direct knowledge of his medical condition, no additional details were provided about the nature of his illness.

They confirmed that Tata has been admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital.

Born on December 28, 1937, into the prominent Tata family, Ratan Tata studied architecture and engineering at Cornell University and later completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.

He began his career at the Tata Group in 1961, working on the shop floor of Tata Steel, and eventually rose to become the chairman of Tata Sons in 1991.

Under his leadership, the Tata Group expanded significantly, acquiring global companies like Tetley, Jaguar Land Rover, and Corus Steel, positioning the group as an international powerhouse.

He is also credited with developing the Tata Nano, one of the world’s most affordable cars.

Recalling the inspiration for the Tata Nano, Ratan Tata said:

“I remember seeing a family of four on a motorbike in the heavy Bombay rain — I knew I wanted to do more for these families who were risking their lives for lack of an alternative.

“The greatest pleasure I’ve had is trying to do something, everybody says ‘could not be done’.”

Ratan Tata stepped down as chairman in 2012 and was conferred with the title of chairman emeritus.

He remains active in business and philanthropy through his role in the Tata Trusts, which contribute to education, health, and rural development.

Known for his visionary leadership and ethics, he has earned numerous awards and honours, including the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian award.
