“I just couldn’t look at him every day."

Priyanka Chopra revealed that she quit a Bollywood film after just a few days due to the “dehumanising” director on the set.

She was new to the industry at the time and revealed that she took money out of her own pocket to remove herself from the set.

The actress recalled that she was portraying a character who was going undercover.

But behind her back, the unnamed director spoke about her and her appearance to other crew members.

Priyanka explained: “I’m undercover, I’m seducing the guy – obviously that’s what girls do when they’re undercover.

“But I’m seducing the guy and you have to take off one piece of clothing [at a time]. I wanted to layer up.

“The filmmaker was like, No, I need to see her underwear. Otherwise, why is anybody coming to watch this movie?”

Priyanka clarified that the director did say it directly to her.

She elaborated: “He didn’t say it to me. He said it to the stylist in front of me. It was such a dehumanising moment.”

Priyanka stated that she takes her acting seriously but at time, production teams have belittled and misconstrued her strong work ethic.

“It was a feeling of, I’m nothing else outside of how I can be used, my art is not important, what I contribute is not important.”

With the guidance of her father, Priyanka decided to quit the film after just two days of work.

She paid the production back for the money they had spent so far.

Speaking about the director, Priyanka added:

“I just couldn’t look at him every day.”

Priyanka Chopra previously detailed her experience in her 2021 memoir Unfinished.

She wrote: “I was ready to go full-out as a temptress in the number.

“The director’s words and tone, though, conveyed that he regarded me in a way that I found unacceptable.”

Priyanka also opened up about acting in a film that she hated.

She revealed: “I can’t tell you what movie it was but I can tell you the experience was pretty hateful.

“I used to just wait around for hours. My lines made no sense, I was constantly a damsel, which I am kind of not. So it was tough.”

Since the incident with the director, Priyanka has appeared in over 80 productions. This includes the spy thriller series Citadel.
