Veteran actor and comedian Javed Kodu passed away in Lahore after a prolonged illness.
The beloved performer, known for his large stage presence despite his short stature, died at General Hospital.
His death has left the entertainment industry mourning the loss of one of its most distinct talents.
Javed Kodu, whose real name was Javed Iqbal, had been battling multiple health issues for years.
Family members said that he had long suffered from diabetes, high blood pressure, and other complications.
In 2016, he was hospitalised due to a cerebral artery condition.
Later, he underwent surgery on his hips following injuries sustained in a road accident.
Despite these ongoing health challenges, he remained a respected and loved figure in the industry until the end.
His death was met with an outpouring of grief from across Pakistan.
In a statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said:
“Javed Kodu, who was famous for his short stature and towering talent, leaves behind a void in the media industry that is likely never to be filled.”
The PM expressed his prayers for the departed soul and condolences to the grieving family.
Javed Kodu began his artistic journey in the 1980s and quickly gained popularity through his distinctive comedic style and expressive acting.
Throughout his decades-long career, he starred in more than 150 Punjabi and Urdu films.
The actor appeared in hundreds of stage plays and television dramas.
His presence on screen was unmistakable. Javed’s humour, timing, and personality made him a fan favourite.
On the stage, he often played witty supporting roles that resonated with audiences.
Known for blending satire with social commentary, Javed Kodu was not just a comedian, he was an artist who understood the pulse of the common viewer.
His performances in live theatre drew crowds, and he was a staple on television variety shows during the 1990s and 2000s.
He is survived by his widow and three sons. Funeral arrangements are yet to be finalised and the family is expected to announce details soon.
