"celebrities would be well advised on the tone-deafness of it.”
Nikhil Dwivedi has criticised Bollywood celebrities for appearing to be “unempathetic” amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic in India and around the world.
Since lockdown restrictions have been relaxed, many Bollywood stars have been active on social media, posting pictures of themselves on holiday.
In many cases, celebrities have been seen enjoying themselves in the Maldives.
While some flaunted their luxurious resort stays, others gave personal insights into their holiday.
This includes the likes of Disha Patani, Tiger Shroff and Tara Sutaria among others.
Actor and producer Nikhil called out these stars for their “tone-deafness”. He went on to say that because of this “tone-deafness”, the industry is often left surprised by the backlash they receive for “unrelated reasons”.
Nikhil’s angry reaction comes after journalist Barkha Dutt called out this celebrity trend.
Barkha had written: “With apology to the Maldives but I just can’t bear to see one more sun-kissed, rippled water image from there while our Covid numbers surge and jobs plummet.
“It’s sort of the November version of banana bread and celebrities would be well advised on the tone-deafness of it.”
Nikhil agreed and added: “Absolutely. Then we are surprised at the suddenness of the backlash the movie industry receives for unrelated reasons.
“We are so self-absorbed and so oblivious to what’s around us that we appear unempathetic.
“Let me also assure it’s not like they are heartless, none are.. just plain stupid.”

Nikhil confirmed that he had tested positive for the virus and is currently self-isolating. He is asymptomatic, however, he is experiencing a loss of taste.
On the work front, Nikhil was last seen in Hansal Mehta’s Scam 1992.
He announced that he will be producing a three-film franchise based on the popular TV series Naagin
The franchise will star Shraddha Kapoor in the lead role and will be directed by Vishal Furia.
