"Why isn’t she going to court with these charges?"

Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s brother Shamas Siddiqui has spoken out about the allegations made against him and his family by the actor’s estranged wife Aaliya.

Nawazuddin and Aaliya are currently amidst an ugly divorce battle with the latter accusing her in-laws of mental torture, domestic violence and more.

According to an interaction with BollywoodLife, Shamas revealed that he introduced Nawazuddin and Aaliya. He said:

“I used to always try sort out the differences between her and my brother.

“In fact, I was the one who had introduced them, she had worked with me first in a film where she had acted and I was an assistant director.”

Speaking about why his name has been involved in the situation, he explained:

“I’m being dragged in the middle of a husband and wife’s issues. Aaliya is joining one unrelated incident with the other.

“Aaliya is levying a molestation charge on me, but this is very easy for a lady to claim nowadays.

“It’s a very serious accusation, but it has to be proven first. Why isn’t she going to court with these charges?

“Not even an FIR has been lodged. I think she has filed a complaint. But there’s a big difference between a complaint and a court case.

“I’ve not even met Aaliya since many months, and a Section 354 complaint [molestation charge] is valid only for six months.

“Even the police needs proof, these are legal matters. She needs to prove them first.”

Shamas went on to speak about the allegations of mental and physical torture. He revealed:

“Aaliya has raised allegations of domestic violence against my family, not me. The major accusation is against Ayaazuddin Siddiqui, another brother.

“But she herself has said that Nawaz and she were living separately most of the time over the past five years, so how could my family have stayed with her.”

Shamas also opposed Aaliya’s accusations against his family that they would stay with her. He said:

“That’s a complete lie. Our mother and sister, who had died of cancer, used to come sometimes to Mumbai and stay with me. I have a pretty big home here.

“Except for family functions, she used to not stay with us in the village. And why hasn’t she gone to the family court with these issues?

“Why she’s only telling the media? This had become a matter of media trial vs court?”

Aaliya also claimed that there was a pattern of divorces in Nawazuddin’s family. Speaking about the same, Shamas said:

“Tell her to prove it that four divorces have happened. How many cases have been filed tell her to prove it?”

“She has to prove all this. There’s a heaven and hell difference between placing allegations on Twitter and proving them in court.”

Shamas further added that the supposed divorces have not taken place.

“No, they haven’t taken place. She’s only laying blames without proof. The women whom she’s talking about are preparing defamation cases against her.

“They’re happily married to my brothers with their children.”

Shamas was also asked to explain Aaliya’s motive. He disclosed:

“It’s because of the Rs 2.16 crore (£229,390.04) that she owes me. She never returned a penny to me. She didn’t respond positively to my emails, after which I was forced to file a case.

“As per the contract, I had lent her the money in April 2019 for the film, without asking for interest or profit.

“I just wanted her to return to my principle amount. But I had to keep lending her money as I was stuck.

“If her film, Holy Cow, did not complete then I wouldn’t get my money back. So, I kept lending more money so that it’d be made and I’d get my money back.

“It got completed in January 2020, and she even found buyers for it. She still didn’t return my money after that.”

Elaborating how Aaliya’s claims are a ploy to divert the truth, Shamas said:

“This is all a money matter. I was forced to hire a lawyer after no positive response to my last email on 14 January [2020] and we then started communicating through notices.

“As soon as their divorce controversy began, she deliberately started involving me and saying I was an issue.

“This was all a ploy to divert attention from the Rs 2.16 crore (£229,390.04) she owes me so that I don’t pursue the matter.”

It appears the Nawazuddin family drama continues to unfold.
