this could be the most expensive car purchased in India.
Mukesh Ambani has purchased a Rolls-Royce Cullinan, adding to his luxury car collection.
If Regional Transport Office (RTO) officials are to be believed, it is one of India’s most expensive car purchases, costing Rs. 13.1 Crore (£1.29 million).
The Rolls-Royce was registered by Reliance Industries at the Tardeo Regional Transport Office in South Mumbai on January 31, 2022.
In India, the car’s base price is Rs. 6.95 Crore (£687,000).
But it has been reported that Ambani’s car has been heavily customised, substantially raising the price.
RTO officials said that the businessman opted for a ‘Tuscan Sun’ paint job.
The 12-cylinder car weighs more than 2.5 tonnes and produces 564bhp.
In addition to customisation, Ambani also obtained a special number plate.
A one-off tax payment of Rs. 20 Lakh (£19,700) was made for the car, whose registration is valid until January 30, 2037.
Another Rs. 40,000 (£395) was paid towards road safety tax.
One RTO official said this could be the most expensive car purchased in India.
The number plate ends with ‘0001’ and usually, such registration number series cost Rs. 4 Lakh (£3,900).
But since a similar one was already taken, an entirely new number series had to be started. This meant Mukesh Ambani had to pay around Rs. 12 Lakh (£11,800).
With written permission from the Transport Commissioner, RTO offices can start a new series for assigning registration mark 0001 for which the applicant has to shell out three times the fee specified for a regular number.
The Rolls-Royce Cullinan was launched in India in 2018 as an SUV that is capable of driving on all road terrains.
It is reported that this will be the third Cullinan in the Ambani garage.
Ambani is known for his car collection and at his Mumbai home, named Antilia, there is a multi-storey garage.
The huge garage is almost like a car park, with around 168 lavish sedans and supercars.
In many cases, Ambani’s cars have been customised, meaning that they cost even more than their original price.
One of his standout cars is the Maybach 62. Ambani was the first Indian to buy the luxury car and it was a birthday present for his wife Nita Ambani.
Another is a heavily modified BMW 760i.
The car was specially designed in Germany and has been exclusively customised to render the highest form of security.
The BMW is bulletproof with armour on the chassis as well as the windows. It is also equipped with Z-category security detailing.
