"I understand lockdown has made people mentally unstable!"
MS Dhoni’s wife Sakshi Singh has once again denied that her husband had retired from international cricket.
On May 27, 2020, social media users started to spread rumours of Dhoni’s retirement, resulting in the hashtag #DhoniRetires becoming one of the top trends.
However, those following the World Cup-winning captain insisted that the rumours were false.
One of those was his wife Sakshi who was seemingly angry by the latest wave of rumours surrounding what appears to be one of the most debated topics in Indian cricket.
She did not hold back as she said the lockdown had “made people mentally unstable”.
Sakshi wrote on Twitter: “Its only rumours! I understand lockdown has made people mentally unstable! #DhoniRetires… Get a life!”
However, just moments after writing the Tweet, Sakshi deleted it.
This is not the first time Sakshi has had to refute reports of her husband’s retirement. In September 2019, she denied the rumours surrounding Dhoni’s future.
She had written: “It’s called rumours.”
MS Dhoni has kept quiet about his future. Speculations have been rife since he decided to take a break from competitive cricket after the 2019 World Cup.
He has not played since India’s semi-final defeat to New Zealand.
Most notably, the 38-year-old stated for people not to ask questions about his future.
Despite the lack of cricket, the Indian team management did not rule out a return to the senior team.
Former chief selector MSK Prasad had said that they were looking beyond Dhoni and keen on giving chances to younger players.
Dhoni had been set to return to the 2020 Indian Premier League. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it was suspended until further notice.
MS Dhoni had trained with the Chennai Super Kings before the suspension.
Meanwhile, fellow cricketer Harbhajan Singh said in an Instagram chat with Rohit Sharma that he felt that Dhoni does not want to play for India again.
He said: “He wants to play IPL 100 per cent. But one needs to know his take on whether he wants to play for India anymore or not.
“I think he doesn’t want to play for India again. He has played so much for India.
“As far as I know him, he doesn’t want to wear the blue jersey again.
“He decided that India’s last match in the World Cup was his last. A few people have also told me that this is the case.”
