"She went into depression over the actor’s suicide."
A 15-year-old girl has tragically committed suicide after suffering from depression over Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s unfortunate death.
The actor committed suicide at his residence in Bandra after silently suffering from depression for approximately six months.
Sushant hung himself and his body was discovered on 14 June 2020 by Mumbai Police. News of his untimely death sent shockwaves across India and abroad.
Now it has been revealed that the young girl committed suicide at her Chouldari residence in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Island on Wednesday, 17 June 2020.
Speaking to News18, the Director-General of Police, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Dependra Pathak said:
“Yes, it’s true that a girl aged 15-years-old hanged herself after she went into depression over the actor’s suicide.
“I would like to urge all the youngsters to look forward in life to achieve their goals in nation-building rather than taking such extreme steps.”
He further added that parents should communicate with their children concerning depression.
“I would also like to urge all the parents to speak to their children if they notice any symptoms of depression on them.”
It was discovered that the young girl had been watching news of Sushant Singh Rajput’s demise leading up to her death. She even wrote about the same in her notepad.
The victim took such drastic steps after reportedly getting into an argument with her grandfather on June 17, 2020.
The minor girl then locked herself inside her bedroom before committing suicide.
It is believed she was already depressed regarding Sushant’s death and the disagreement with her grandfather further aggravated her mental condition.
The case has been registered at Ograbraj Police Station. Further investigation is being carried out.
In fact, this is not the first time a young girl has committed suicide after the news of Sushant.
A 17-year-old girl from Rajendra Nagar hung herself on June 14, 2020, after watching the news about Sushant’s suicide.
She was rushed to Patna Medical College and Hospital where she was unfortunately declared deceased.
Ever since the news of Sushant’s death, the need for discussions concerning mental health has been bought to light.
Not only that, but Bollywood has been criticised for its treatment of “outsiders” in the entertainment industry.
Undoubtedly, more needs to be done to ensure fair treatment, mental health and more are being addressed.
