"You’re here because you are just a pretty face"

Mahenur Haider recently appeared as a guest on Ahmed Ali Butt’s podcast, where she discussed the challenges she faced in life.

She shared an incident from her first job when someone labelled her as “just a pretty face”.

Mahenur said: “When I was doing my first job at the age of 16, I was working as a marketing manager.

“There, I met an experienced professional.

“He told me ‘You, young lady, you think that you got this job because you are smart. You’re here because you are just a pretty face, it’s not because you are smart’.

“So at the age of 16, this opened my eyes and since then, I said ‘anything but looks’. I will not be just a pretty face. I will be a lot more than that.

“There are a lot of pretty people out there. You should also have other skills. You should know how to act. You should know how to convince people.”

“If I am pretty but I don’t know how to act, then people won’t watch my dramas.”

Despite her detailed account, some netizens did not believe her, questioning how she could have been working as a marketing manager at 16.

One user asked: “Marketing manager at the age of 16? She lost the plot then and there.”

Another said: “In a few years, her first job will further reduce to 13-14 years. So she can be 26 forever.”

They also accused her of being self-obsessed and claimed that she often praised herself in interviews.

One commented: “In every interview, she says the same thing. Good looking, good looking. Lies and lies.”

Another questioned: “Why is she so self-obsessed? Is she the last pretty woman in the world?”

One wrote:

“Madly singing praises of herself. She is literally wearing a whole makeup shop.”

Another said: “She has a pretty face? I don’t think so.”

In response, Mahenur’s fans came to her defence, arguing that people tend to hate those who are confident in their beauty.

One stated: “People hate the woman who knows she is pretty. They will make every nasty comment to make her feel bad.”

Another stated: “They obviously hate their life, hence the bitterness towards this beautiful woman.”
