"She would ask me to endure it."

Kiran Ashfaque has spoken about the impact divorce has on a woman living in Pakistan.

She appeared on the NonStop Podcast and recalled her reaction when news of her divorce became public knowledge and how it affected her family.

Kiran said: “In this country, only the woman gets divorced. Men don’t get divorced.

“No one questions the man. In the comments, people ask me why I left him [Imran Ashraf]. Why don’t you ask the other person why they left?”

Kiran also admitted she did not like to talk about her divorce because people would question why she stayed quiet for so long.

In response to those questions, Kiran revealed that she stayed in the marriage because of her mother.

“My mother would not let me. She would ask me to endure it.

“My mother had one refrain: whatever happens just endure it, you have to sustain your marriage.

“You have two elder sisters, whatever you do will affect them.

“A divorce is not just the woman’s ordeal. When I got divorced it affected my two brothers, my two sisters and my parents.

When your sisters are married their in-laws taunt them.”

In October 2022, Kiran and Imran Ashraf announced their separation on social media.

The post read: “With a heavy heart we announce that we have mutually and respectfully decided to part ways.

“The primary concern for both of us will remain our son Roham, for whom we will continue to be the best possible parents.

“We request our fans, well-wishers and the media to support us during this difficult time and give us the privacy we need to move on. Love and respect for all. Kiran and Imran.”

During a Q&A on Instagram, Kiran Ashfaque said the divorce happened due to differences between the couple, pointing out that disrespect should not be tolerated in a relationship.

In early December 2023, Kiran married Hamza Ali Chaudhry, Political Advisor for the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

Kiran confirmed the news of her marriage after several photos went viral.

Sharing a photo from her mehendi ceremony, the post was captioned:

“With you by my side, I know that everything is possible. Thank you for holding my hand.”

The post was met with congratulatory messages whilst others accused her of cheating on Imran.

One comment read: “I think these two had something going on from before, that’s why she divorced a gem like Imran.

“She should have stayed for the sake of her son.”

Another said: “Hamza is a gem, he will keep you the happiest.”

A third added: “Kiran I am so happy for you. Ignore the haters and their negative comments, you enjoy your moment.”
