"Translating couture into a lipstick wasn’t about scale..."
Kay Beauty has unveiled a striking collaboration with couture label Falguni Shane Peacock, signalling a powerful moment for Indian beauty on the global luxury stage.
For Katrina Kaif, the starting point was never glamour alone.
“Falguni and Shane were very clear that this had to feel globally glamorous, but deeply Indian,” she told Vogue India.
The visual language draws from the Gatsby era.
“The 1920s allowed us to play with structure, geometry and metallic detailing,” Kaif explained.
Indian textiles gave the collaboration its emotional core.
“That’s where the emotion lives,” she said, pointing to Banarasi silks, mulberry tones and brocade-inspired undertones.
These shades are not literal nods to saris or lehengas. Instead, they interpret how Indian textiles move, catch light and make you feel when worn.
Kaif was keen to avoid couture beauty, feeling impractical.
“Makeup has to be enjoyed,” she said, stressing comfort and wearability alongside elevated packaging.
“The formula must stay comfortable, wearable and something you reach for without thinking,” she added, describing luxury that fits seamlessly into daily life.
The lipsticks look precious but feel familiar on the lips. Face palettes are designed to move effortlessly from day to night.
For Falguni Shane Peacock, the translation felt intuitive.
They shared that makeup has always completed their runway and red carpet storytelling.
“Translating couture into a lipstick wasn’t about scale,” they explained. “It was about choosing the right details.”
Sun-ray motifs from their logo appear across bullets and palettes, while gold finishes mirror how their garments catch light.
The collaboration follows years of Kay Beauty building trust and consistency.
Only then did couture beauty feel like a natural progression.
“Indian beauty is ready now for that intersection of luxury and authenticity,” Kaif said.
This creative milestone coincides with Kay Beauty’s official UK launch. The award-winning brand has entered the market through Space NK.
