"This is our first time ever doing this, so this is crazy."
KATSEYE has cemented their status as one of pop’s boldest new acts after a powerful debut at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards and winning an award.
The six-member girl group, Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Manon (Meret Manon Bannerman), Megan Skiendiel, Sophia Laforteza, and Yoonchae Jeung, took over the VMAs Preshow stage with an energetic performance of ‘Gnarly’, the lead track from their latest EP Beautiful Chaos.
The group swapped their red-carpet glamour for coordinated black bustiers and micro shorts.
Metallic belts and feather-boa trims added to the spectacle, while their synchronised choreography underscored how far they have come since Netflix’s Pop Star Academy.
Later in the night, they returned with ‘Gabriela’, delivering sultry choreography that sent the crowd into a frenzy.
Their second outfit change showcased mismatched scarlet, hot pink, and baby blue tops, underscoring their eclectic style and commanding presence.
To top off the night, the group won the VMA Push Performance of the Year for ‘Touch’.
On stage, an emotional Lara Raj told fans:
“Oh my God. This is so crazy. Thank you so much. This is all very new to us.
“This is our first time ever doing this, so this is crazy.
“We’ve been through a lot together, so having this moment feel so rewarding, and feels like everything’s paid off, and fuels us to keep going, so thank you.”
Released in June 2025, Beautiful Chaos marked a new chapter for KATSEYE following their 2024 debut EP SIS.
The group previously spoke to Harper’s BAZAAR about their growth and artistry.
Daniela said: “I look back at Pop Star Academy and ‘Debut’ and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I was a baby’, even though it was only a year ago.
“I’ve evolved so much in so many different ways: my artistry, style, and even my face.”
Megan reflected on the group’s confidence in their breakout single:
“When we first heard the song, we all loved it because we saw what we could do with it.
“We knew there were going to be some mixed reactions, but we were so confident about it. We knew this was it.
“We knew people were going to eat this up. The mixed reactions didn’t get to us. If anything, they motivated us.”
KATSEYE’s explosive VMA debut and award win confirm their rapid ascent in global pop, proof that this group is not just here for the moment, but for the future.
