"even to praise me can get people in trouble"

Kangana Ranaut is known for voicing her strong opinions on social media, particularly when it comes to the film industry.

Now, the Bollywood actress has made another shocking revelation regarding her upcoming film Thalaivi.

She is no stranger to publicly talking about fellow Bollywood stars and this time, she spoke about Akshay Kumar.

Kangana Ranaut took to Twitter and revealed that she received secret calls from Kumar after the release of the trailer for Thalaivi.

According to Ranaut, Kumar called her to praise the trailer.

She claimed that Bollywood stars praise her secretly and that they cannot do it publicly due to the “movie mafia terror”.

The actress made her point while replying to a tweet from Aniruddha Guha, who referred to her as “exceptional” and a “once-in-a-generation actor”.

In her reply, posted on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, Ranaut said:

“Bollywood is so hostile that even to praise me can get people in trouble, I have got many secret calls and messages even from big stars like @akshaykumar they praised @Thalaivithefilm trailer to sky but unlike Alia and Deepika films they can’t openly praise it. Movie mafia terror.”

Kangana Ranaut’s tweet about Akshay Kumar received mixed responses.

One user said: “Akshay Kumar is not a big star, he is big in age…

“Compare the National awards between you both! That explains who is bigger star!”

However, another disagreed with Ranaut’s public response. He said:

“But this is really unfair… If he called you in private you should not be disclosing his name like this… This way one loses trust…

“There has to be some decorum…You could have made ur point w/out naming…”

According to Kangana Ranaut, big Bollywood stars such as Akshay Kumar cannot openly praise her work, unlike movies starring Alia Bhatt and Deepika Padukone.

Therefore, she wished that the Bollywood industry could be more objective.

Continuing her original tweet, Ranaut added:

“Wish an industry of art can be objective when it comes to art, and not indulge in power play and politics when it comes to cinema, my political views and spirituality should not make me a target of bullying, harassment and isolation but if they do, then obviously I will win…”

Following the release of the trailer for Thalaivi, Kangana Ranaut’s first song for the J Jayalalithaa biopic, Chali Chali, was released on April 2, 2021.

Thalaivi will be released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu on April 23, 2021.
