“We announced our title way before.”
Bollywood actress Sadia Khateeb has officially addressed the plagiarism rumours surrounding the upcoming theatrical release of Daadi Ki Shaadi.
Critics recently alleged that the new Hindi film might have been inspired by a Pakistani telefilm from March 2026 titled Dadi Ki Shadi.
However, the actress insists the Indian project was already well into production before the overseas comedy even reached television.
The movie features veteran star Neetu Kapoor in the lead role alongside popular comedian and television presenter Kapil Sharma.
It also serves as the highly anticipated acting debut for Neetu’s daughter, who is named Riddhima Kapoor Sahni.
Directed by Ashish R Mohan, the plot follows a family matriarch who shocks everyone by deciding to marry again.
Addressing the media recently, Sadia Khateeb explained that the title of the film was made public in December 2025.
She reflected on the official timeline, and then she said: “We announced our title way before.”
Sadia further explained that the announcement coincided with the start of their principal photography for the family-centred drama.
“We did so when we started shooting for the film, and this Pakistani (offering) came much later.”
The actress remains adamant that the creative team did not take any inspiration from the Pakistani family comedy project.
She believes that the two stories contain fundamentally different plot points despite sharing the same catchphrase for a title.
She confirmed that no creative theft had taken place, saying:
“It’s not that we have copied from anyone.”
The star also noted that the protagonist in their film differs greatly from the grandmother shown in the telefilm.]
“Our Daadi is not what we have seen in their trailer.”
She concluded her defence by stating that the overall narrative structure of their film follows a very different plot.
Working with a legend like Neetu Kapoor was described by Sadia as an incredibly delightful and grounding professional experience.
She noted that the veteran actress does not carry the heavy weight of her famous cinematic legacy on set.
Sadia said: “She keeps it real.”
The junior star appreciated how the senior actress created a light and fun environment for the entire film crew.
The experience was positive for the young star, and she said: “She made everything easy, light, and fun for me.”
A star-studded screening for the film was held in Mumbai on May 5, 2026, ahead of its theatrical debut.
Famous members of the Kapoor family, including Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, arrived to show their support for Neetu.
Veteran actress Rekha was also spotted at the event, making a rare and glamorous appearance for the film fraternity.
The production is a collaborative effort between Rtake Studios and BeingU Studios, along with Shimla Talkies Production Company.
It explores the emotional complexities of late-life romance and how family members react to such unexpected news today.
Daadi Ki Shaadi is set to officially release in theatres across the globe on May 8, 2026.
