"I came to Dubai first to purchase it."
An Indian man travelled all the way to Dubai to buy an iPhone 14 Pro.
By doing so, Dheeraj Palliyil became the first Indian national to own the new iPhone model.
Dheeraj, who is from Kochi, waited in a long queue to get his hands on the new smartphone. He ended up purchasing the phone from a premium Apple reseller in Mirdif City Centre.
Dheeraj opted for a 512GB deep purple iPhone 14 Pro.
The iPhone has since been released in India and it costs Rs. 159,000 (£1,700) but in Dubai, it is cheaper, costing £1,400.
But Dheeraj ended up paying a lot more due to travelling to another country.
He reportedly spent Rs. 40,000 (£440) on plane tickets.
In total, he ended up spending Rs. 10,000 (£110) more than the Indian price.
Dheeraj explained that he is a huge Apple fan and he revealed that he travels to Dubai nearly every time a new iPhone is released.
He said: “It was during the launch of iPhone 8 in 2017 that I came to Dubai first to purchase it.
“I managed to purchase the iPhone 11 Pro Max first from the same seller in Mirdif City Centre when sales started in Dubai in 2019, even weeks before the launch of the model in India.
“I was also the first customer when the sale of iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 started in Dubai.”
