Police have arrested an Indian man after he blackmailed his girlfriend.
It was heard that he sent her nude video to her parents and threatened to send the footage to her friends in an attempt to extort money from her.
The incident happened during a video call. The young man persuaded her to go nude during the call.
He then recorded the footage and began blackmailing her.
Her family found out about her ordeal when she tried to take her own life. The police was subsequently informed.
According to police, a 22-year-old woman from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, befriended a 21-year-old man named Mohammad Faizal from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
They got to know each other through social media in November 2020.
The young woman told police that Faizal befriended her whilst hiding his true intentions.
They initially spoke on social media before speaking on the phone.
As they continued speaking, their relationship developed, despite never physically meeting one another.
In one instance, the long-distance couple had a video call.
During the video call, Faizal persuaded his girlfriend to take off her clothes. Believing that she trusted him, she obliged.
However, he recorded the footage of his nude girlfriend.
After obtaining the footage, the Indian man began blackmailing her and threatening to share the video if she did not give him money.
As a result, the relationship ended and the young woman stopped speaking to him.
Faizal then sent the nude video to the woman’s family which caused chaos in her household.
He then threatened to send the video to all the woman’s contacts on her social media profile if she did not give him money.
The matter led the woman to become depressed to such a point that she tried to commit suicide.
She left home to take her own life but her parents found out and managed to find her in time.
The young woman then explained that she was being blackmailed.
The family then went to Belbagh Police Station and filed a complaint against Faizal.
Police sent a team to Lucknow and traced the accused through his IP address.
Faizal was arrested and during questioning, police found out he quit further education and became a tailor instead.
Faizal was brought to Jabalpur and presented before the court. He was subsequently remanded in custody.
