There have been a number of murder cases involving family members and their in-laws.

In one incident, a 33-year-old man was murdered by his four brothers-in-law.

Shridhar Yelumalai had gone to his wife’s maternal home in Mumbai on November 12, 2018. He was trying to resolve a domestic issue which had resulted in the couple separating.

The couple had been arguing on a regular basis which led to the woman taking their son to go and live with her parents in August 2018.

A police officer explained that Shridhar went to the house in an attempt to persuade his wife to return home. The couple has a son together.

When the man arrived at the house in Vakola, Santacruz East, he was initially stopped by his in-laws. They eventually allowed him to meet his wife.

She refused to return home which led to an argument. During the row, the woman’s brothers began to brutally attack Shridhar.

It was reported that he was beaten with metal rods before being stabbed in the stomach.

Following the violent assault, the four brothers fled the scene. Shridhar was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

Three of the four men were arrested. Senior Inspector Kailas Avhad confirmed that officers had made arrests. He said:

“We have arrested three men and are looking for one more person. They are all brothers-in-law of the deceased.”
