Ram Singh, considered his daughter's love marriage to be disrespectful.
A police case has been registered against an Indian father after he killed his own daughter. The man then tried to get rid of any evidence by cremating the body.
The incident happened in the village of Manoli Surat, Patiala, Punjab, on April 2, 2020.
It was revealed that the killing happened after the man found out that his daughter had a love marriage. He was angered that she ran away from home and married a young man from a different caste.
Police have identified the main suspect as Ram Singh, however, police also registered a case against several other people for their roles in the murder.
The victim had been a class 12 student when she got into a relationship with a boy from Haryana. He was from a different caste but she still loved him.
On March 29, 2020, the two lovers ran away from home and got married.
However, they were caught by the police as they had breached lockdown rules.
Both families were called and were told about what happened.
The young woman’s family were angered and brought her back home where they locked her in a room.
Her father, Ram Singh, considered his daughter’s love marriage to be disrespectful. On April 1, 2020, he and his accomplices killed her.
They later cremated her body before the sun came up and her ashes were collected in the evening.
Meanwhile, the police received a tip-off about the murder and they arrived at the scene. At that point, the accused fled.
Police searched the house and found the ashes. They took them as part of the investigation.
Officers explained that it was a case of honour killing and it was committed because Ram did not approve of his daughter’s marriage to someone from a different caste.
Police went on to say that they cremated the body in the early morning to avoid being spotted by eyewitnesses.
A case has been registered against the Indian father as well as four unidentified people under the section of murder. They remain on the run but police have ensured that they will be arrested soon.
In a similar incident, six people were arrested for killing the daughter over her relationship.
They killed 19-year-old Krishna because they allegedly did not approve of her boyfriend.
The incident came to light when police officers received a report after someone had provided information at the district police control room on Saturday, March 16, 2019.
The unknown person had said that a girl had died under strange circumstances and the family was preparing to cremate her.
When police reached the area and questioned the family, Parkash claimed that his sister had gone missing at approximately 12:15 am and was found dead on the side of a road.
The girl’s body was taken for a post-mortem. Examination results revealed that the girl had been tortured before being strangled to death.
Krishna’s family was not able to explain why the police had not been informed. Police suspected that this was a case of honour killing and the family was arrested.
