An Indian boy, aged 12, from Palghar district in Maharashtra, has had a police complaint filed against him after he allegedly raped a 10-year-old girl on multiple occasions.
On Saturday, March 2, 2019, police said that the complaint was made by the girl’s parents.
The boy’s repeated sexual assaults led to the girl becoming pregnant. As a result, the incident came to light.
According to officers at Mokhada police station, the girl and boy live near to each other. He had raped her several times over a period of four months.
An official at the station said: “Both the minors are neighbours. As per the complaint, the boy had been raping the girl for the last four months.
“A few days back, the girl complained of stomach pain. When her parents took her for a medical check-up, doctors told them that she was pregnant.”
The girl’s parents asked her about the pregnancy. She told them about the boy who was repeatedly raping her. Her parents immediately made a police complaint.
The official added:
“When her parents asked her, she told them what had happened.”
“Thereafter, they filed a complaint against the boy.”
The boy was booked under Section 376 (rape) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
According to the police, the boy has not yet been detained and an investigation into the case has got underway.
In a similar incident which occurred in 2017, a 10-year-old girl gave birth after becoming pregnant as a result of a rape.
The girl became pregnant after her uncle allegedly raped her on several occasions. The crimes only became known when the child’s parents took her to a hospital.
In July 2017, she complained of a stomach ache, but doctors discovered that the girl was actually pregnant.
Her parents stated that they did not know about the pregnancy. Meanwhile, police officers later arrested the victim’s uncle.
They appealed to India’s Supreme Court for a late-term abortion request, as the pregnancy was 32 weeks. However, the court dismissed it on July 28, 2017.
She gave birth to a baby girl located in Chandigarh in Punjab, India. It was reported that the baby was given up for adoption.
Media claimed that the victim’s parents wanted nothing to do with the baby.
The country continues to face a huge struggle with sexual assaults, particularly on minors.
According to government data, it revealed that 20,000 cases were reported which involved the rape or sexual assault of a minor in 2015.
