"Our event is synonymous with luxury and we have the finest participation from Indian fashion fraternity."
The most influential Indian designers will present their latest collections for the fifth edition of India Couture Week.
This year, the name of the annual event was changed to Shree Raj Mahal Jewellers India Couture Week to acknowledge the recent collaboration between Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) and Shree Raj Mahal Jewellers.
It will be hosted by the glamorous Taj Palace Hotel between July 15 and July 20, 2014, New Delhi. The event will revive the art of the glamorous clothing, once worn by the Maharajas and the Mughals.
The six-day extravaganza is organised by FDCI, a non-profit organisation, dedicated to raising the profile of Indian fashion design.
Their annual events – Shree Raj Mahal Jewellers India Couture Week and India Fashion Week – are known for showcasing the best of Indian talent.
Sunil Sethi, president of FDCI said: “It gives me immense pleasure to bring you the 2014 edition of India Couture Week. After the roaring success of the past events, we at the FDCI are delighted to present an extravagant couture week. Our event is synonymous with luxury and we have the finest participation from Indian fashion fraternity.”
One of the sponsors of the event, Shree Raj Mahal Jewellers, will launch their exquisite bridal jewellery – Svara (Gold) and Sondaraya (Diamond), at the closing day of the fashion week. The luxurious label is expected to allure the customers with extravagant statement pieces.
Praveen Goel, CEO of the brand, said: “Associating with FDCI gives us a fantastic opportunity to work with the top designers of the country. We will launch our two bridal collection Svara and Sondaraya for the bridal season through various fashion shows.
“Our team pushes the boundaries of creation, blending aesthetics with value, making it a full-fledged art in its own right, and at India Couture Week the nation’s finest designers will be using our jewellery to adorn their couture creations. I am proud to be associated with this FDCI event and look forward to an overwhelming response.”
On the collaboration with Shree Raj Mahal Jewellers, Sunil Sethi commented: “We are proud to associate with Shree Raj Mahal Jewellers who’s exclusive designer jewellery collection will be seen on the ICW runway; and Logix Group who will be coming up with a mall which will have a dedicated space for the fashion designers.”
Ten of the most beloved designers of the country are going to showcase their latest collections at the Shree Raj Mahal Jewellers India Couture Week. One of the participants, Manish Malhorta, expressed his excitement about the upcoming show:
“The couture week here has definitely given me a stronghold in Delhi in the last four years. It has been an amazing experience from the business point of view as well. It is a very special event for me.”
The fashion week kicks off with Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s collection. Since he launched his eponymous label in 1999 in Kolkata, he has made his name for presenting clothes that blend modern art with Indian tradition. Ultimately, he described his creations as ‘an International styling with an Indian soul’.
His latest inspiration is drawn from French impressionists like Monet and Henry Matisse. He has designed costumes for famous Bollywood movies such as Guzaarish, Babul, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, Raavan, and English Vinglish, to name a few.
Opening such a prestigious event is the latest recognition to Mukherjee’s talent and creative achievements. The designer commented: “I have had a very good association with FDCI and I’m very privileged to be starting the India Couture Week again.”
Other designers to showcase their collections at the Indian Couture Week include Anamika Khanna, Varun Bahl, Gaurav Gupta, Anju Modi, Manish Arora, Rina Dhaka, Monisha Jaisingh and Rohit Bal.
The latter surprisingly changed his creative direction from bridal fashion to Couture, after presenting a breathtaking show at the Indian Bridal Week last year.
The president of Logix Group, the other major sponsor of the event, Shakti Nath, said: “The six-day fashion week event will eyewitness the grand launch of The Logix City Centre Mall.
“Many international brands outlets will be there in the Mall to offer a complete range of apparel and lifestyle accessories to cater every lifestyle need. There will be a dedicated area called Destination Couture in the City Center mall for Indian and International store.”
The shopping centre is located in Noida City Center and will attract customers with screen state of art multiplex PVR entertainment and will host the first Imax of Northern India.
