Helena Ford is facing backlash after a historic tweet, allegedly by her, took aim at foreign people. This comes as Love Island viewers accused her of being obsessed with fellow Islander Shakira Khan.
Helena is currently coupled up with Harry Cooksley following a dramatic Casa Amor recoupling.
But her recent behaviour in the villa, and now online, has left fans divided.
The backlash erupted after social media users uncovered an old tweet, allegedly posted by Helena in 2014, that many are calling xenophobic.
The tweet read: “All I can hear are these f*****g foreign d***heads.”
One outraged fan wrote: “Get her out.”
Another said: “Oh you’re going home.”
Several others tagged the official Love Island account and broadcasting regulator Ofcom, demanding immediate action from ITV.
A source close to Helena responded to the controversy, saying:
“These tweets are not reflective of the language Helena would use as a 30-year-old woman and she would acknowledge she has done a lot of growing up since what she very naively posted over eight years ago.”
Other now-deleted tweets allegedly shared by Helena describe her own mother as a “sl*g” and a “dog”.
Helena’s social media history isn’t the only reason she’s become one of the most talked-about contestants this season.
Viewers have accused her of being “obsessed” with Shakira, noting several instances where Helena appears to copy her style and choices.
From wearing Shakira’s bikinis to pursuing the same men, fans say the pattern is “uncomfortable” to watch.
One viewer posted: “I said it from the start, Helena’s obsession is not with Harry or Harrison, it’s with Shakira.
“Even the wearing of Shakira’s bikini not once. I actually think @loveisland need to do something now. It’s so uncomfortable to watch.”
Another added:
“At this point, it’s blatantly obvious Helena only goes for the men that are interested in Shakira.”
Helena and Harry initially had a spark in the early weeks but quickly cooled off, leading him to pursue Shakira.
Helena, meanwhile, flirted with new boys, including bombshell Gio, but continued to show lingering interest in Harry, leading to frequent tension with Shakira.
That tension escalated during Casa Amor, when Shakira began bonding with newcomer Ty.
