Renowned Indian singer Haimanti Sukla has returned to the Bangladeshi music scene after a long break.

She is reportedly shooting for a new song titled ‘Smritir Peyaala’ in Kolkata.

The track, recorded on April 4, 2025, and composed by Nazir Mahmud, marks a rare return for the veteran vocalist.

Her legacy extends across both India and Bangladesh.

Released under SPD Music Entertainment, the song is set to debut on YouTube.

Excitingly, it will also feature Sukla in its music video, a rare onscreen appearance that’s expected to generate buzz among her long-time admirers.

‘Smritir Peyaala’, written by Sudip Kumar Deep, brings together contemporary emotion with the melodic depth characteristic of Sukla’s earlier work.

Produced by Palash Debnath, the project marks a deliberate and emotionally charged return for a singer who now rarely records.

Sukla revealed that it had been four years since her last visit to Bangladesh.

Describing the song’s lyrics and melody as deeply moving, she said:

“I told Palash to go ahead and record it because it felt right. It’s been a while since something touched me like this.”

The singer admitted that her current approach to work is highly selective but ‘Smritir Peyaala’ reignited her passion for music in a way few compositions have in recent years.

Sukla said: “This song reminded me why I fell in love with music in the first place. I believe listeners will feel that too.”

The singer is best known in Bangladesh for her memorable performance of ‘Dake Pakhi Kholo Akhi’ from the film Protirodh.

It was a collaboration with lyricist Nazrul Islam Babu and composer Sheikh Sadi Khan.

Sukla remains a revered name among audiences who grew up with her voice.

Her earlier classics, such as ‘Amar Bolar Kichu Chhilo Na’ and ‘Ogo Brishti Amar Chokher Pata’, have further cemented her place in Bengali music history.

With the release date approaching, anticipation is growing around the new track.

Fans are beyond excited, especially since it brings back one of the most celebrated voices in Bengali music.

A user said: “The legend is back!”

Another wrote: “Can’t wait for the release.”

Haimanti Sukla’s return marks more than just a new release; it’s a meaningful revival of the artistic bond she shares with her Bangladeshi listeners.
