It has been revealed that Kulsuma Akter had an arranged marriage with Habibur Masum, who has been charged with her murder.

Kulsama was stabbed to death in front of her baby son during a shopping trip with a friend in Bradford.

Police initially said Masum and Kulsama were understood to have known each other but did not reveal the nature of their relationship.

The first picture of Kulsama has now revealed that they were married.

Kulsama is pictured in traditional wedding attire alongside Masum.

It was initially thought that the couple married in their home country of Bangladesh but relatives said they did not officially wed until 2022.

Her uncle Akbar Ali Babu said:

“Now there is nothing else we desire most than a trial and for justice.”

Habibur Masum appeared at Bradford Magistrates’ Court and was remanded into custody. Five other people have been arrested in connection with the case.

It comes as Kulsama’s mother Monwara Begum described her “heartache” and paid tribute to her daughter, while it also emerged that the family of her suspected killer have fled their home for fear of a revenge attack by her relatives.

The wedding is believed to have taken place in Oldham where Kulsama has relatives.

For the marriage, Kulsama wore a crimson saree with gold trimming.

Masum was charged with murder and possession of a bladed article following the incident in Bradford on Saturday.

He appeared at Bradford Magistrates’ Court this morning for a six-minute hearing. Masum stood in the glass-fronted dock as he was addressed.

Masum spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address.

Masum was remanded into custody by district judge Alex Boyd and will appear at Bradford Crown Court on April 12, 2024.

He was arrested in the early hours of April 9 in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire – 170 miles away from where Kulsama was stabbed.

Days before the fatal stabbing, wannabe influencer Habibur Masum shared a post about “losing his bride”.

West Yorkshire Police said a 23-year-old man arrested in the Cheshire area on April 8 on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released on bail.

Four other men were arrested in Aylesbury on suspicion of assisting an offender and drug offences.

The men aged 23, 26, 28, and 29, from the West Midlands area, are currently in custody, the force added.
