"Probably the worst phase of Kohli’s career"
India’s cricket captain Virat Kohli is facing backlash for his recent performance in the team’s Test series against England.
Kohli has been regarded as one of the best batsmen of the current generation.
However, during India’s second Test match against England on Thursday, August 12, 2021, fans were referring to him as “overrated.”
Kohli put on an average performance in the 1st innings of the Lord’s Test, making just 42 runs off 102 balls. on a (literally) level playing field.
He was caught by Joe Root off England pacer Ollie Robinson. Following his dismissal, Kohli was trending on social media as the “most overrated cricketer”.
Fans are disappointed in Kohli’s performance and believe they will always be waiting for the skipper to score his record-breaking 71st century.
Virat Kohli's Test average since 01st January 2020 is 24.18 (16 inns, 387 runs). Kohli has not scored an International century in his last 48 inns, last International 100 was against Shakib-less Bangladesh in India on 23rd November 2019. Most over-rated cricketer ever. #Cricket

Another Twitter user said:
“From expecting him to score a century to expecting him to avoid a duck. Kohli has come a long way.”
Some fans and Twitter users are even calling for the Indian skipper to be dropped from the squad altogether.
Journalist Minhaz Merchant tweeted:
“Time for @imVkohli and @cheteshwar1 to go. Bring in Gill, Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav.
“Clean up the middle order with fearless youngsters, not cat-on-a-hot-tin-roof Pujara and Kohli #INDVENG”
Probably worst phase of kohli’s career right now.All the Trolling aside, had it been any Australian England or Nz captain, they would have step down from captaincy, for team’s sake.Kohli should have done this long back,WTC finals was his last chance.

One Twitter user believes that India will never win another ICC Championship if Virat Kohli is captain, saying his “cronyism is harming Indian cricket.”
However, amid the criticism of Kohli, former Indian batsman Ajay Sharma has defended the skipper.
Speaking to Sputnik News on Friday, August 13, 2021, Sharma said:
“There’s no doubt about Virat Kohli’s class. Over the years, Kohli has done wonderfully well for the team and I am sure he will come out of his current lean patch soon.
“I feel the people who are calling him an overrated cricketer seem to have no understanding of the game.”
Despite Virat Kohli’s struggles at Lord’s, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul got India off to a flying start with a 126-run partnership.
The pair also broke a 69-year-old record, by becoming the first Indian openers to put on a century stand in a Test match at Lord’s since 1952.
