An elderly man’s brutal death ended up resulting in his sister dying of shock.

The shocking incident happened in the Kurigram District of Bangladesh on the night of November 2, 2022.

It was reported that a 70-year-old man was beaten to death by his neighbour over the cutting of a tree.

The victim was identified as Abul Kalam Azad.

Meanwhile, his elder sister was 75-year-old Sakina Begum.

Both lived in Raipur Village under the Kathalbari union of the Upazila.

According to police and locals, Abul got into an argument with his neighbour Dulal Mia over the cutting branches of a mango tree next door to their house.

The argument intensified to a point that Dulal wanted to kill him.

At around 9 pm, Dulal enlisted the help of relatives and friends.

Armed with sharp weapons and sticks, the group made their way over to Abul’s house.

They forced their way into the property and attacked the elderly man. They later fled the scene, leaving Abul severely injured.

He was rushed to Kurigram General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Md Shahriar, the officer-in-charge of Kurigram Sadar police station, said that his sister Sakina witnessed the violent assault.

The traumatic incident led to her collapsing. She later died in hospital.

Officer Shahriar said: “She was also rushed to the hospital where doctors pronounced her dead.”

Police have since arrested six people.

They have been identified as Dulal’s brother Iqbal, Nur Jamal, Nur Boxes, Iqbal’s wife Aleya Khatun and their two sons Mizanur and Ashraful.

The two main accused, Dulal and his son Jubayer, remain on the run.

There have been no further reports from the deceased’s family and the verdict remains unknown.

It is believed that the incident was over a minor issue relating to tree branches being cut.

But police are not ruling out the possibility that other incidents may have contributed to the violent murder.

Police are continuing their investigation in the hope that they find more information.

In South Asia, there have been a number of incidents where a dispute has resulted in death.

In one case, an Indian brother from Punjab killed his elder sister. Prior to the killing, they had gotten into an argument over property.

After demanding their share in the property, one brother shot his sister dead.
