Why is she so interested?

In future episodes of EastEnders, Maya Houssain’s character will continue to be explored.

Maya – played by Bharti Patel – first appeared in the show on May 29, 2024.

She was introduced as a potential new ‘friend’ of Harvey Monroe (Ross Boatman).

Following the departure of his friends Mitch Baker (Roger Griffiths) and Tom ‘Rocky’ Cotton (Brian Conley), Harvey was left feeling lonely in the Square.

His partner Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) therefore encouraged him to make new friends.

Harvey bumped into Maya and they bonded over the shared interest in Tottenham Hotspur.

However, viewers have been wondering if Maya is really all she seems.

Older viewers of EastEnders remembered that Harvey’s son Aaron Monroe (Charlie Wernham) is currently in prison for his racist activities.

These include attempting to bomb a building in the Square and beating up an Asian taxi driver.

This led fans to predict whether Maya could be related to the taxi driver and if she was seeking revenge against the Monroe family.

Recent episodes of EastEnders saw Harvey attempt to contact Maya via social media after losing her phone number.

When Maya discovered this, she seemed to be irritated, telling Harvey that she didn’t like being stalked online.

The pair bonded again after Maya opened up to Harvey about the death of her husband.

When Maya left, however, Harvey saw that her social media profile had disappeared.

Future episodes will see Maya attempt to get closer to Jean as she continues to spend time with Harvey.

Harvey will reveal Aaron’s history to Maya and he will be surprised to later find Maya researching Aaron’s crimes.

Bharti Patel is famous for her role in Doctors, where she played Ruhma Carter.

She appeared in the medical soap from 2015 to 2024.

Meanwhile, Ross Boatman began starring in EastEnders as Harvey in 2021.

At the 2022 British Soap Awards, the actor won the award for ‘Best Newcomer’.

In his winner’s speech, Ross quipped: “I’ve been waiting for this for 40 years.

“I love my job, the people, and coming into work.

“I’ve had the best year and had the fortune to work on some really important, powerfully written stories.

“I have worked with some fantastic actors along the way.”

“I want to thank everybody from every department for making my job possible and making it such a joy.

“I feel extremely grateful and privileged.”

EastEnders continues at 7.30 pm on BBC One on Monday, June 17, 2024.

However, from Tuesday, June, 18 to Thursday, June 20, it will air at the same time, but on BBC Two.
