A new development has emerged in the Nikki Bhati case after purported CCTV footage surfaced on social media.
It was previously reported that Greater Noida-based Nikki was allegedly set on fire by her husband, Vipin, on August 21, 2025, in a case of dowry-related abuse.
However, a viral clip purportedly shows Vipin standing at a store near his home at the time Nikki was reportedly set alight.
The footage appears to show Vipin, dressed in a checkered shirt, at the store just minutes before hearing a loud noise.
It matches the timing cited by Nikki’s sister Kanchan. However, police are still verifying the video.
An officer said: “We will cross-check a few things, especially the time span.
“We are anyway verifying the contents of the footage and the video handed over to us by Kanchan as the main evidence.
“Footage from the hospital where Nikki was taken to initially needs to be examined too.”
Kanchan claimed her sister was set alight and shared a video of Vipin allegedly dragging Nikki by her hair.
However, Vipin’s cousin Devendra has claimed Nikki’s burns were caused by a cylinder blast.
He said: “The shop where Vipin is standing is opposite their house. I heard Vipin shouting about rushing Nikki to hospital.
“Everyone was shouting about Nikki being injured in a fire. If you see the footage, you’ll see me walking out of my shop in shorts after Vipin.
“I downed the shutters and drove the car.
“Along with uncle and aunty (Daya and Satveer), I took Nikki to hospital.”
“She told us there was a cylinder blast inside the house and kept asking for water all the way to the hospital as she couldn’t breathe.
“We took her to Fortis Hospital, where she also told the doctor about a cylinder blast.”

Police continue to investigate the case and all possibilities, including dowry harassment, domestic violence, and suicide.
Meanwhile, Vipin, his parents and his brother Rohit remain in custody.
Police confirmed that the couple had an argument on August 21 about Nikki’s wish to return to social media and reopen a beauty parlour she once ran.
Officers said Vipin opposed her plans, sparking a heated row.
Nikki Bhati allegedly told him that no one could stop her.
