Pistachio-flavoured eggs also dominate the rankings.

Searches for Easter egg offers have surged by more than 5,000% across the UK, highlighting growing excitement as families prepare for the indulgent spring holiday.

Brits are expected to consume around 205 million chocolate eggs each year, with the average adult enjoying three to four eggs over the Easter period.

However, new research suggests many of these festive treats come with surprisingly high calorie and sugar content.

Experts at ZAVA analysed over 40 popular Easter eggs to uncover which supermarket favourites are the most indulgent this season.

Their findings reveal that some well-loved brands pack a significant nutritional punch, though moderation remains key rather than complete avoidance.

Topping the list is Ferrero Rocher’s Golden Easter Egg, which contains 613 calories per 100g.

The 250g egg delivers a total of 1,532 calories, equating to over 60% of the NHS daily recommendation for men and nearly 77% for women.

It also contains 103g of sugar, which is roughly 26 teaspoons in a single product.

In second place is Raffaello’s white chocolate Easter egg, delivering 606 calories per 100g and a total sugar content of 100g.

This equates to more than three times the NHS-recommended daily sugar intake of 30g.

Pistachio-flavoured eggs also dominate the rankings, reflecting a growing trend in premium chocolate flavours among UK shoppers.

The Waitrose Cracking Pistachio Easter Egg ranks third, containing 602 calories per 100g and a total of 1,926 calories per egg.

Its sugar content reaches 142g, which is nearly five times the NHS daily guideline.

Three Waitrose products appear in the top ten, showing the retailer’s premium range is among the richest available.

Meanwhile, ASDA’s Pistachio and Himalayan Salt White Chocolate Egg takes fourth place with 591 calories per 100g.

Rounding out the top five is Lindt Lindor’s dark chocolate Easter egg, which contains 587 calories per 100g despite having the lowest sugar content among the top entries.

Beyond calories, sugar levels also raised concerns, particularly with Toblerone’s Golden Edgy Egg.

It was identified as the sugariest option analysed, containing 61.2g of sugar per 100g, which is more than double the NHS daily limit.

Health experts warn that regularly exceeding sugar recommendations can increase risks linked to weight gain and long-term conditions.

Dr Crystal Wyllie from ZAVA advises enjoying Easter treats mindfully rather than eliminating them.

She encourages portion control, sharing larger eggs, and balancing indulgence with healthier meals during the holiday period.

The findings highlight how festive favourites can quickly add up nutritionally, especially for families celebrating with multiple eggs.

As Easter approaches, shoppers are urged to remain aware of hidden calories while still enjoying traditions in moderation.
