A body has been recovered from the River Thames in the search for an Ipswich man who went missing in late 2024.

Thirty-seven-year-old Gurbaksh Sually, who went by Simon, was last in the Bishopsgate and the Hackney area of London on November 23.

He was reported missing the next day.

Although there had been no confirmed sightings, his family said the Met Police had told them Mr Sually’s phone was active in Ipswich at around 2:30 am on November 28.

Speaking to the Ipswich Star at the time, Mr Sually’s brother, Mohinder Sually, expressed the family’s growing concern.

He said: “We are all so stressed.

“We’ve been into all the bars, pubs and everywhere we can think of in Ipswich, people are being really helpful by putting up flyers and at first it feels positive, but two or three days in and we haven’t got anything concrete you start to feel really disheartened and worried.”

In December 2024, the police issued a renewed appeal for information regarding Mr Sually’s whereabouts.

His brother shared a heartfelt plea: “We all really love him and we all really miss him, we just hope that he gets back in touch with someone and lets us know he is okay, or if something serious has happened to him if anyone has any information then please contact the police.”

Tragically, a man’s body was discovered in the River Thames near Wapping.

Although formal identification has yet to take place, Mr Sually’s family has been informed of the development.

A spokesperson for the Met Police said: “Police appealed for information to locate 37-year-old Gurbaksh ‘Simon’ Sually who was last seen on 23 November in the Bishopgate and Hackney area of London.

“On 13 December the body of a man was recovered from the River Thames near Wapping.”

“Formal identification awaits but we have updated Gurbaksh’s family with this development.”

In December 2023, an Indian student was found dead in the River Thames after going missing in London.

Mitkumar Patel’s absence was reported to the police on November 18.

However, they located his body a few days later in the River Thames and paramedics declared him dead.
