Hollis was forced to give him £25 in cash and bank cards
An Asian drug addict has received a jail sentence for a string of crimes lasting 15 days.
Matthew Singh’s crimes reportedly forced a man “out of his home”. After a trial, a judge jailed him for six years.
Police caught the Asian drug addict as he broke into Christopher Hollis’ home. They found the kitchen door broken down. They arrested him, with the help of a police dog.
Matthew Singh pleaded guilty to multiple offences including robbery, attempted robbery and fraud. He robbed a homeowner of cash and bank cards. The Asian drug addict also demanded phones and money from the public.
The offences began in January 2017, when he approached Christopher Hollis’ home. Convincing the homeowner to let him in, Hollis offered him to use the landline phone.
However, Singh turned hostile and demanded cash. Singh forced Hollis to give him £25 in cash and bank cards. After the initial incident, Singh returned, demanding the cards’ PIN numbers. With them, he proceeded to withdraw cash from Hollis’ accounts.
The Asian drug addict continued with his crime spree. He reportedly committed five accounts of robbery or attempted robbery by demanding phones or money. Singh carried out these offences on the streets of Saltaire, Shipley and Frizinghall.
The court heard how during one attempt, he fooled a member of the public by saying he was a carer for one of the men. When in fact, he attempted to steal from him.
Singh’s crime spree finally ended when he entered Hollis’ home a second time. He broke in and police became alerted. They caught him inside the property.
The Recorder of Bradford Judge Roger Thomas QC told the court how Hollis’ became severely affected by the ordeal:
“At the beginning of February, he was so frightened by what had happened that he moved out of his own house and gone to live elsewhere.”
Speaking directly to Singh, he added: “This is a serious catalogue of offences and that level of sentence is appropriate in your case.”
Matthew Singh will face six years in jail.
