Arooj Aftab receives President’s Pride of Performance Award

Arooj Aftab has received the President’s Pride of Performance Award, adding to the historic Grammy Award in 2022.

Arooj Aftab, who has previously bagged herself a Grammy Award, has now proceeded to add another prestigious award to her collection.

Pakistani Ambassador to the United States Masood Khan honoured Arooj with the honorary President’s Pride of Performance award.

The ceremony was held in liaison with Pakistan’s 76th Independence Day, in Washington DC.

The ambassador said Arooj was given the award because of her contribution in changing the perception of Pakistan, in regards to diplomacy and interstate relations.

In a citation that was read out during the ceremony, it was stated:

“In recognition of her outstanding contribution to promoting Pakistani music tradition in the United States and across the globe, the President of Pakistan has conferred on Arooj Aftab the President’s Pride of Performance award.”

Receiving her award, Arooj Aftab gave thanks to the ambassador and the government of Pakistan.

She admitted that it was as good a moment as any for literature, poetry and music to be recognised and acknowledged as the identity of many Pakistani people.

Arooj said that receiving the award was a proud moment for her and felt it was inspiring for female artists in her country.

Arooj took to Instagram to share a series of photographs, and simply captioned the images as ‘Pride of Performance.’

Many fans came to the post to congratulate Arooj on her achievement.

One fan said:

Another said: “Looking sharp Arooj! What a fantastic achievement. Kudos.”

One comment read: “Many many congratulations Ma’am, for everything you did for this country to make us proud.”

Arooj Aftab is a well-known Pakistani-American singer, music composer and producer.

She is recognised for her musical abilities such as fusion jazz and neo-sufi musical style.

She became the first ever Pakistani woman to win a Grammy Award in 2022 for Best Global Music Performance.

Born in Saudi Arabia, Arooj spent the majority of her formative years in Lahore.

She then moved to America to enrol in Boston’s Berklee School of Music, where she studied Music Production and Engineering.

Her track ‘Mohabbat’ was the song recognised at the Grammy Awards.

This came after the track was listed as a 2021 summer favourite by former US President Barack Obama.
