On August 20, 2021, Amazon announced the launch of Amitabh Bachchan’s voice for Alexa.
This marks India’s first celebrity voice feature.
Indian customers can choose to add Amitabh’s voice to their Alexa experience on Echo devices or by pressing the mix icon on the Amazon shopping app for an introductory price of Rs. 149 (£1.47) for one year.
To start the purchase, just say:
“Alexa, introduce me to Amitabh Bachchan.”
Interact with the Bollywood megastar’s voice by using the wake word “Amit ji”.
Users can experience content that has been handpicked by Amitabh, including stories from his life, poems from his father, tongue twisters, motivational quotes and more.
In addition to this entertaining content, users can also request music, set alarms and receive weather updates in Amitabh Bachchan’s iconic voice.
Users can hear some engaging behind-the-scenes information by asking “Amit ji, play songs from Kabhi Kabhi” or simply “Amit ji, tell us a funny story”.
A special touch can be added to birthday celebrations by asking:
“Amit ji, it’s my birthday.”
A birthday greeting will be said in Amitabh’s voice.
The Bollywood legend said:

To enable this feature, you need to be “introduced” by Alexa.
- Say “Alexa, introduce me to Amitabh Bachchan” and listen to the instructions.
- Confirm the purchase.
- Say “Alexa, enable Amit ji wake word” on Echo devices to enable this feature.
- For Android users, on the Amazon shopping app, visit the Alexa section in the settings tab and enable “Amit ji” wake word.
Once it has been set up, you can ask ‘Amit ji’ to inspire, entertain and cheer you up every day.
The Amitabh Bachchan voice experience understands the same languages that Alexa can on your compatible devices.
On Echo devices, users can interact with Alexa and Amitabh in English, Hindi or both.
To change the language, go to the device settings on the Alexa app or just say “Alexa, speak in Hindi” to your Echo device.
On the Amazon shopping app, Amit ji and Alexa can interact in English only at launch.
