"A huge tragedy just happened."

Pakistani singer Aima Baig recently criticised the timing and taste of celebrity news currently circulating across various online platforms.

Her sharp remarks followed a viral clip featuring Indian rapper Badshah speaking during a conference at London’s O2 Arena.

During this event, the rapper responded to rumours regarding the alleged wedding of the popular Pakistani actor Hania Aamir.

Badshah wished her well and mentioned that collaborations depend on “when India-Pakistan’s ties improve, and when people’s sentiments allow.”

He stated that any potential project would also rely on whether the sentiments of the people allow such work.

The rapper emphasised his stance by saying that nothing is more important than the country and the sentiments of the people.

Aima Baig was not amused by the circulation of this lighthearted news amidst the ongoing global tragedies and mourning.

She commented on the video asking: “Looking and experiencing what’s happening in this world right now — and a huge tragedy just happened.”

She followed this by saying: “May ALLAH grant him the highest of all RIP, but do you think this news was worth posting?”

The singer specifically referred to the recent attacks by the United States on Iran as a significant world tragedy.

She suggested that media outlets should pause their usual content to show respect for the current period of mourning.

Aima wrote: “It’s the time of mourning. And posting about what a rapper said about what who where… seems disrespectful.

“Apologies if I’m being too sensitive right now, but we all are really hurt and saddened by what has already happened and is happening.

“Post something that will serve a purpose — sorry to say, but this news definitely does not.”

The singer later shared a screenshot of her comment on her Instagram stories to clarify her intentions to followers.

She mentioned that she did not post the comment for any attention or for the sake of social media.

Aima added: “But at least show some respect to what we are going through and what just happened, all the social media content and pages — respect, this ain’t just a joke.

“It’s serious and SAD. Please RESPECT and stop posting content that can wait till the mourning. And also don’t turn this into a jab at anyone, just fear God, please.”

Her remarks arrive at a time when the Middle East remains on edge due to escalating hostilities and violence.

Many social media users found the cross-border speculation irresistible, but Aima Baig felt it was highly insensitive and disrespectful.

The singer noted that she usually refrains from commenting online but felt the current global situation demanded a response.

Meanwhile, the viral clip of Badshah continues to gather views despite the controversy surrounding its timing and social relevance.
