"the case has international linkages"
Bollywood actor and former Bigg Boss 7 contestant Armaan Kohli was arrested in a drugs case.
He was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on August 29, 2021, following a raid at his home in Juhu, Mumbai, the previous day.
During the raid, police allegedly seized a small quantity of cocaine.
NCB Zonal Director Sameer Wankhede led the raid, which is part of the agency’s ‘Rolling Thunder’ operation.
Rolling Thunder looks to bust the network of drug peddlers and suppliers in Mumbai.
The raid at Kohli’s home lasted six hours and a small quantity of cocaine was allegedly seized.
Kohli’s name came up after drug peddler Ajay Raju Singh was arrested.
He was caught in South Mumbai and 25 grams of MDMA (ecstasy) was found in his possession.
One NCB official said: “He is a history-sheeter and has been previously involved in a 2018 case of ANC Mumbai wherein a huge quantity of Ephedrine was recovered.”
A raid on Armaan Kohli’s home was conducted based on Singh’s statement.
Kohli was subsequently questioned and arrested under The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The official added: “Till now, the investigation has revealed that the case has international linkages as the cocaine seized has South American origin.
“NCB Mumbai is probing the route and linkages used to bring the seized cocaine to Mumbai and the involvement of other traffickers.
“Further investigation is underway.”
Under operation Rolling Thunder, the NCB has carried out 15 raids in the span of two days and have arrested eight people.
This includes two Nigerian nationals and TV actor Gaurav Dixit.
Drugs seized include MDMA and charas, which is a cannabis concentrate made from the resin of a live cannabis plant.
Dixit was arrested after his name came up during Ajaz Khan‘s interrogation.
It was reported that MDMA and charas were seized from Dixit’s home during a raid in April 2021. He subsequently went on the run.
Dixit was produced before the court on August 28, 2021. He has been remanded in custody until August 30.
Armaan Kohli has starred in several films such as Dushman Zamana, Anaam and Qahar.
He was also a contestant on Bigg Boss 7 and was in the headlines for his short temper.
In 2018, Kohli was embroiled in controversy after he was accused of physically abusing a woman.
In 2020, numerous Bollywood stars including Deepika Padukone, Shraddha Kapoor, Sara Ali Khan and Rakul Preet Singh were questioned by NCB in connection with an investigation into alleged drug abuse in Bollywood following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
So far, the investigation has revealed international links.
The NCB is investigating the angle and the methods used to smuggle cocaine into Mumbai.
