"Momma always said life is like a box of chocolates"
The trailer of Laal Singh Chaddha is out and the film promises to be the biggest feel-good entertainer of 2022.
Aamir Khan had announced that the trailer would be released during the first innings of the IPL final between Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals.
The film stars Aamir and Kareena Kapoor.
It is directed by Advait Chandan and it is the official Hindi adaptation of the classic 1994 film Forrest Gump, which starred Tom Hanks.
In the almost three-minute-long trailer, viewers catch a glimpse of the titular character, a simple man who was raised on a farm by his mother (Mona Singh).
Laal goes from having a disability to becoming a professional runner who later joins the Indian Army.
There is a callback to the Hollywood classic as his friend yells: “Bhaag Laal bhaag.”
Viewers see his camaraderie with Naga Chaitanya’s character and them fighting shoulder-to-shoulder in a war.
The trailer also introduces Kareena’s Vimmy, the love of Laal’s life.
He wants to marry her but she believes that they are not meant for each other.
The film passes through several years of Indian history, as did the original.
Towards the end, the iconic “Momma always said life is like a box of chocolates” becomes Laal’s “Maa kehti thi zindagi golgappe ki tarah hoti hai”.
The trailer is all heart and tears of joy.
It gives glimpses into the lovely bond between a disabled child and a mother who will move mountains to make sure that her son is considered “normal” and does all that he wants to do like any healthy young boy.
Aamir’s entrance as Laal is an impactful one, but his look will remind some of his character from Rajkumar Hirani’s PK.
Two songs from the film have already been released.
‘Main Ki Karaan’ is a recollection of Laal Singh Chaddha’s first love. Sonu Nigam has lent the vocals while Amitabh Bhattacharya has penned the lyrics.
With lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya, ‘Kahani’ has vocals by Mohan Kannan.
Laal Singh Chaddha has been highly anticipated for several years but due to Covid-19, the release was delayed on numerous occasions.
It was originally set to release on December 25, 2020. It ended up being delayed for a year.
However, it was delayed again, aiming for an April 14, 2022 release.
But in February, it was postponed again.
Laal Singh Chaddha will now release on August 11, 2022.
