"That’s why we question every banking tradition."

An advert featuring Aamir Khan and Kiara Advani is accused of hurting religious sentiments.

The Bollywood stars appeared in an advert for AU Small Finance Bank.

Aamir and Kiara are seen as a newlywed couple returning from their wedding.

Whilst in the car, they discuss that neither of them cried during the post-wedding ceremony.

It is then revealed that it is actually the groom who is moving to the bride’s home to help her take care of her sick father.

The groom then takes the first step into the house, as opposed to the tradition of the bride doing so.

It then shows Aamir inside an AU Small Finance Bank branch, saying:

“Why should traditions that have continued for centuries continue to do so?

“That’s why we question every banking tradition. So that you get the best service.”

Vivek Agnihotri slammed the advert and claimed it was hurting religious sentiments.

Sharing the advert, the director said:

“I just fail to understand since when banks have become responsible for changing social and religious traditions?

“I think @aubankindia should do activism by changing the corrupt banking system.

“They do nonsense like these and then say Hindus are trolling. Idiots.”

This led to several others criticising the advert.

One said: “Looks more like a wedding attire ad than a bank. This is what happens when there are woke people in the marketing team.”

Others said they will close their accounts with the bank in protest.

A user wrote: “I have decided to close my and my office account from AU Bank now I will post photos soon.”

Another commented: “Time to boycott @aubankindia, have told in our groups to remove deposits and not open.”

A third said:

“Completely agree (with Vivek Agnihotri)… I was about to close my account from this bank.”

A comment read: “Aamir Khan, once again, mocks Hindu traditions and insults our emotions.”

One person wondered why the advert featured Aamir and Kiara as newlyweds, despite the age gap between the two actors, writing:

“Besides that, why would Kiara marry someone of her grandfather’s age? Even in an advertisement.”

This is not the first time that Aamir Khan has come under fire for such a reason.

In 2016, Aamir faced backlash for his comments on religious intolerance. He claimed that his ex-wife Kiran Rao felt “unsafe” in India.

The comments resurfaced while he was promoting Laal Singh Chaddha.
