The story of this Indian Netflix show is based on the Delhi gang rape and murder in 2012 (Nirbhaya Case). A woman was raped and sexually assaulted by five men on a private bus in Delhi.

When she revealed the story of what had happened to her on the bus, there were mass protests spreading awareness on the safety of women in India.

Delhi Crime (2019) is solely based on the investigation case of this appalling incident that took place, trying to find justice for the woman who was raped.

There are various interesting themes portrayed through this Indian Netflix show. It shows the viewers how political policies in India are sprung upon the police.

The stance of the media and the reaction from the public also play vital roles in the show. It shows how a tragic incident like this opens up so many debates on how to protect women from vicious men.

Crime lord, Ganesh Gaitonde orders Sartaj to save the city within 25 days where he discovers many secrets of the crime world and Ganesh’s background.

In season two, Sartaj Singh digs up more information and uncovers secrets about Ganesh and his father.

This season is full of many intriguing flashbacks to get more of an insight into the life of Ganesh, his father and their plans for the city.

Little Things

The season consists of seven episodes following the life of a twelve-year-old Indian boy, Harshu Gupta (Vishesh Bansal). Harshu is exploring and getting to know what it feels like to grow up in an Indian family.

Yeh Meri Family (2018) is a show based on the story told from Harshu’s point of view. Each episode is narrated by the twelve-year-old, portraying the typical day to day life of an Indian household.

Harshu comes from a middle-class family and is forever questioning the actions and dynamics of the family. During every episode, he is trying to understand the relationship he has with each member of his family as well as school crush, Vidhya.

At the end of the season, Harshu comes to the realisation that family is one of the sole purposes of his life. He finally comes to terms with how important they are through many stages of his life.

Jamtara

Indian Netflix show, Jamtara (2020) is a crime based drama and is an addictive show to watch. It consists of one season with ten episodes, each episode leaves you wanting to watch more.

Jamtara (2020) is directed by Soumendra Padhi and is written by Trishant Srivastava. The show revolves around the phishing operations occurring in the Jamtara district of Jharkhand.

In the show, a group of young men get together and set up a phishing operation. As they are continuing with their plans, a corrupt politician wants in too.

However, even though the politician is working with the group of young men, there is a cop who is willing to fight the lucrative operation.

The show is set in the 1920s in Bengal where Nobel prize winner, Tagore, recreates short stories mainly based on the empowerment of women.

In many of his stories, women play the protagonists and hold themselves confidently in a corrupt Indian society.

Tagore raises awareness on the taboo topics in India such as rebellion, adultery, death and sorrow through his stories. He has released his short stories to widen the minds of the Indian society, changing their perspective and mindset.

The stories are told through one season with 26 episodes, where each episode is approximately 45 minutes long. Each episode is educational, making you think about things about the world you would have never have thought about before.

Ghoul

Ghoul is another Indian Netflix show you could watch during the lockdown. It was released on Netflix in 2018 and consists of one season.

The show is dark, eerie and full of action and adventure. It follows an interrogator, Nida Raheem (Radhika Apte) as she investigates terrorist behaviour at a detention centre.

Nida’s search for the truth becomes a life and death situation as she ends up fighting to save her life. She becomes an interrogator for the detention centre once she exposes her fathers’ anti-government activities.

During the investigation, a range of supernatural activities occurs at the detention centre. Nida then begins to question whether the terrorist (Ali Saeed) has been possessed by something out of this world.

If you enjoy horrors and thrillers then this Indian Netflix show is the perfect thing for you to watch. We advise you not to watch it with the whole family where children are involved, as it could scare them!

She creates awareness of female empowerment in India where it needs to be made aware of the most.

The show is based on a female constable, Bhumi (Aaditi Pohankar) who carries out an undercover operation to catch an underworld drug gang.

Bhumi goes through various complications along the way where she uses her initiative and strength to overcome them. In the first episode, she goes undercover as a prostitute to find clues about the drug leader.

At first, Bhumi comes across as timid, however, along the way, she becomes much more powerful and brave. One of the main themes throughout the show is, of course, female empowerment proving the Indian society wrong.

Once you have watched the first season of She (2020), you will be happy to know that She season two is anticipated to be released in 2021.

Mere Papa Hero Hiralal

Mere Papa Hero Hiralal is a sentimental and heart-touching Indian Netflix show, first released in 2018.

There are a whopping number of 65 episodes in season one, giving you plenty to watch during the lockdown. However, the episodes are fairly short at only 20 minutes long making them perfect to watch while eating your breakfast or lunch.

The show is based on a rickshaw driver, Hiralal Tiwari (Sarwar Ahuja) in Lucknow who is doing everything he can to support his ill daughter. All Hiralal wishes to do is to give his daughter a happy and comfortable life.

There are many happy moments in the film as well as emotional, heart-touching moments. The relationship between the father and daughter is heartwarming and lovely to watch.
