"I want to tell them that I'm alive, well, and not dead."
Veena Kapoor, who was reportedly killed by her son, is alive and well and has issued a clarification.
It had been reported that a man brutally bludgeoned his mother to death with a baseball bat and dumped her body in a river following a property dispute.
The victim was identified as Veena Kapoor, however, it led to the belief that it was the TV actress.
However, Veena has stated that she is alive and well.
In addition to clarifying the reports, she and her son filed an FIR at Mumbai Police Station against those who spread the rumours.
In a statement, Veena explained it was another woman who shared the same name.
She said: “This is false news.
“The truth is there was a Veena Kapoor she has been murdered. But I am not that Veena Kapoor and I’m a different person.
“The name is the same but I stay here in Goregaon, not Juhu. I also stay with my son so that’s why people thought that this is the Veena Kapoor.
“I want to tell them that I’m alive, well, and not dead.
“Please do not fall prey to fake news. I have registered this complaint now so that such things don’t happen with people in the coming time. Work is getting affected because my mood is disturbed with constant phone calls.”
Meanwhile, her son said: “I was numb and blank. We have filed an FIR. The police have supported us really well. I appreciate it from my heart. The way they have helped us when we came to file the complaint, salute to Mumbai Police.”
Veena added:
“If we don’t complain now then the same thing will be repeated later with others also.”
“The mental torture that’s happening with repeated calls, day and night, even while shooting ruins the mood. I’m also unable to focus on work.”
A non-cognisable case for defamation was registered.
Veena said her photograph was used in a news report in place of the actual victim, distressing her.
Nilu Kohli brought the death to light but following the revelation, many have blamed her for spreading false rumours about Veena.
Nilu said the real victim was also an actress and insisted that she had been referring to her in her post.
She said: “The Veena Kapur I was talking about on my Instagram was different from the Veena Kapoor, who’s currently seen in Ajooni.
“I have worked with both of them earlier and I know that these are two different people.
“My post was for the person who met with a tragic end, her son killed her for property. I had worked with her on the show Bhabhi and I was in touch with her until two years ago. What happened was very sad and shocking.”
