Two Sheffield-based men were jailed for a total of nine years on Friday, February 8, 2019, at Sheffield Crown Court for supplying Class A drugs in the city.

Givara Zamil, aged 32, formerly of Lindley Heights, and Sami Hussain, aged 34, formerly of Carwood Green supplied the drugs in the Spital area of Sheffield.

Police described the pair as “significant street-level Class A drug dealers” who engaged in criminal activity in broad daylight.

They would supply heroin and crack cocaine to buyers in front of the public, including children, in Spital Hill.

Hussain and Zamil flooded the community with drugs. As a result, the South Yorkshire Police became suspicious.

Zamil and Hussain were arrested by officers from Sheffield’s Tasking Team in autumn 2018. They carried out an investigation following reports of drug dealing in the area.

PC Gareth Webb said:

“The local community voiced concerns to police about drugs supply in Spital Hill, something we are determined to tackle in order to keep people safe.

“As such, officers from the Tasking Team carried out a two-month investigation against those involved and identified Hussain and Zamil as the principal dealers.

“Both Zamil and Hussain denied their involvement in drugs supply during the early stages of our investigation, but through the tireless efforts of our team, we were able to present significant evidence to the courts.”

Police officers recovered large stashes of heroin and crack cocaine that had been hidden in different locations.

Forensic investigations linked the two men with the hidden drug stash.

At a hearing in December 2018, Zamil and Hussain pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply heroin and crack cocaine.

PC Webb said:

“The courts heard how Hussain and Zamil were significant street-level Class A drug dealers who engaged in criminal activity in front of members of the public, including children, who were going about their daily business in Spital Hill.

“On three separate occasions, officers recovered large amounts of heroin and crack cocaine the pair had hidden in different locations on Spital Hill in order to deal.

“Both Zamil and Hussain were linked to the drugs by forensic work.”

Givara Zamil and Sami Hussain each received a sentence of four and a half years in prison at Sheffield Crown Court.

PC Webb added:

“I am pleased they pleaded guilty and have now received custodial sentences for their crimes.”
