Comedy drama film The Queen of My Dreams is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 8, 2023.

The film is set in 1999 and follows the journey of Azra, a Canadian citizen who finds herself on a journey to Pakistan after the death of her father.

The story further develops when Azra is unable to find common ground with her traditional mother, Mariam.

It is only when she is taken on a trip down memory lane that she realises she is more similar to her mother than she thought.

The audience follows Azra where she discovers her mother’s youthful life and compares it to the life she has built in Canada.

The film has been written and directed by Fawzia Mirza and is her first feature film.

The film is inspired by Fawzia’s one-person play, Me, My Mom and Sharmila.

Speaking of her debut, Fawzia said: “I always dreamt of making a feature film in Pakistan, and this entire experience was a dream come true.”

Fawzia is a talented actress, producer, writer and director who has previously released web series such as Kam Kardashian, Brown Girl Problems and a movie titled Signature Move.

The film is produced by Kamil Chima and Carol Noronha, who have teamed up with Canadian producers Jason Levangie, Marc Tetreault and Andria Wilson Mirza.

Amrit Kaur, Nimra Bucha and Hamza Haq star in the film, alongside Gul-e-Rana, Ali Kazmi and Meher Jaffri.

The visuals for The Queen of My Dreams have been brought to life by cinematographer Matt Irwin and production designer Michael Pierson.

The film has been recognised by Telefilm Canada, Canada Media Fund and the Government of Canada.

The upcoming Toronto premiere is a breakthrough for Pakistan as it continues to make its way to being globally recognised by upcoming talented artists.
