"If your criteria are too long, then you may not get matches."

Sima Taparia has revealed the reason why Aparna Shewakramani could not find a match for herself on Netflix’s Indian Matchmaking.

The matchmaker stated that the lack of matches was down to Aparna’s stubbornness.

Sima said: “Aparna is stubborn.

“When you are stubborn, you get fewer matches. That’s what happened on the show.

“You should keep an eye on the criteria.

“If your criteria are too long, then you may not get matches.”

Lawyer Aparna appeared in the first season but did not find a match.

She returned for the second season but was seen going on dates without the matchmaker’s help.

In August 2022, Aparna admitted that she had differences with Sima and that their values did not align, adding that she is more progressive than the matchmaker and views partnerships as equal.

Aparna said: “Sima and I did have a breakup, and it was about where our values didn’t align.

“The tension was that I’m more progressive and I view partnerships as equal between a man and a woman if it’s a heterosexual woman.

“I feel like we didn’t see eye-to-eye on a lot of things that surrounded our culture.”

On why she decided to join the second season of Indian Matchmaking if she was not going to work with Sima, Aparna explained:

“So many women DM (direct message) me to tell me about their own fraught relationships with their parents about matchmaking.

“For them, I was a beacon of some sort. I was very humbled by that.

“I never envisioned that in sharing my own journey, to get support from women all over the world from all different cultures.

“That spurred me on to say I want to do this again.”

Sima also responded to criticism that the show has received over the past two seasons.

She said both negative and positive reactions are important to make a show hit.

Sima also confirmed that Indian Matchmaking will return for a third season. She added:

“You’ll see Season 3 soon. Netflix will plan and announce soon. It’s ready completely. It will come out within a few months.”

After the first season of Indian Matchmaking premiered in 2020, Aparna received criticism. But she later received praise for speaking her mind and not putting up with bad dates.

After appearing on the show, Aparna wrote a book titled She’s Unlikeable: And Other Lies That Bring Women Down.
