Electronic Dance Music (EDM) is becoming hugely popular in India giving opportunity for music producers of this genres to make their name.
One such name is the DJ, Sartek (Sarthak Sardana), a 27 year old Delhi based EDM producer, who’s getting recognised for his mix work.
Sartek has at music festivals on sets opening for big DJ’s like Martin Garrix and Paul Van Dyk.
Talking about how he got into the music game, Sartek told IANS:
“It all started for me after I attended a legendary trance DJ gig by Ferry Corsten in 2007, having no idea what dance music is all about. The gig changed the perspective of music for me as I never knew electronic music could make me so inspired seeing happy vibes all over.”
His hit mix, Back to the Future, was featured on French DJ, David Guetta’s radio show. Who hailed Sartek as one of the luminaries of EDM.
Perfecting any craft is not easy and EDM is no different, as Sartek explains:
“It took me four years to learn the art of production and released my debut track on Tiesto’s label Magik Muzik which marked the first official breakthrough.”
It’s’ not about himself either. He is featuring emerging artists on his music podcast.
Sartek’s ethos to becoming a successful DJ and mixer is to learn the “art of engineering your track yourself.”
Sartek has been signed to leading Dutch DJ Harwell’s ‘Revealed Recording’ music label. Ecstatic about the signing, he says:
“It was indeed a dream come true moment to sign a track on the world’s biggest dance music producer’s record label.”
Sartek sees EDM having a bright future in India. When he started he was performing at gigs in big cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad but now he is getting calls from cities like Indore, Nagpur and Agra, implying the dance music is spreading across India.
