Ranbir Kapoor is the top contender
Ranbir Kapoor is rumoured to take on the role of Sourav Ganguly in an upcoming biopic about the BCCI president.
Sourav Ganguly’s life as an Indian cricket captain is due to be portrayed on the big screen.
He joins other cricketing legends such as Sachin Tendulkar to have a film made about him.
According to reports, Sourav Ganguly’s biopic is going to be a big-budget film, costing anywhere between £19 million and £24 million.
Reports also say that the production house has already decided on who they want to play Sourav Ganguly.
Allegedly, Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor is the top contender, with the filmmakers also considering two other actors.
Sourav Ganguly has already confirmed the biopic will go ahead. He said:
“Yes, I have agreed to the biopic. It will be in Hindi but it is not possible to reveal the name of the director now.
“It will take some more time for everything to be finalised.”
In terms of plans already in place for the film, the script is being written and the production house has met with Ganguly multiple times.
However, it could soon be confirmed that Ranbir Kapoor will star in the lead role.
Previously, actress Neha Dhupia suggested that Hrithik Roshan is the best choice to play Sourav Ganguly in the biopic.
However, Ganguly believes that for that to happen, Roshan must work to look more like him. He said:
“But he’s got to get a body like me, first.
“Lot of people would say the way Hrithik’s body is, how good-looking he is, and how muscular he is, people would say ‘Aree, you’ll have to get a body like Hrithik’.
“But, Hrithik will have to get a body like me before he starts.”
If Ranbir Kapoor does get the opportunity to portray Sourav Ganguly in his biopic, he will reportedly be capturing the former cricketer’s entire life story.
Although the script is still being written, the film is said to be covering Ganguly’s days as a young cricketer, and his journey to becoming Indian captain and president of the BCCI.
The biopic will also reportedly focus on Ganguly’s historic win at Lords.
Ganguly’s confirmation of the biopic going ahead is one of the first finalised pieces of information about the film.
Shooting for the biopic will take place after the pre-production work is complete.
However, all work surrounding the film is currently being kept under wraps.
