Indian filmmaker Suman Mukhopadhyay’s adaptation of Manik Bandyopadhyay’s Putul Nacher Itikotha is finally coming to Hoichoi from November 14, 2025.

The film had a Bengali theatrical release in August 2025 and completed a successful run on the international festival circuit.

Set in the late 1930s and early 1940s, Mukhopadhyay moved the story forward from its original timeline to connect with modern audiences.

The adaptation stars Jaya Ahsan as Kusum, Abir Chatterjee as Shashi, and Parambrata Chatterjee as Kumu.

Supporting roles are played by Ananya Chatterjee, Surangana Bandyopadhyay, and Shantilal Mukhopadhyay, adding depth to the ensemble cast.

Critics highlighted the chemistry between Jaya Ahsan and Abir Chatterjee, which was widely praised during the theatrical run of the film.

The Hoichoi release will allow Bangladeshi audiences to enjoy the performances from the comfort of their homes.

Jaya Ahsan expressed hope that her Bangladeshi fans would engage with the film.

She said: “Although an Indian director made the film, Manik Bandyopadhyay belongs to both sides of Bengal.”

She further noted that the country’s cultural sensibility is woven into Bandyopadhyay’s writing and reflected on screen.

Ahsan added she would be delighted if Bangladeshi audiences who enjoy literature-based cinema watch the adaptation.

The story follows Kusum, a character whose struggles and emotions highlight social conditions of the era, making it relatable across borders.

Mukhopadhyay’s direction emphasises subtle human emotions and moral dilemmas.

The film stays true to the novel’s literary depth.

Meanwhile, Ahsan recently starred in another cross-border project, Fereshte.

The film is a Bangladesh–Iran co-production directed by Murtaza Atash Zamzam.

Fereshte premiered on Bongo on November 2, 2025, after a cinema release on September 19.

The film depicts a rickshaw-puller husband and his garment factory worker wife navigating daily hardships and small acts of resilience.

Fereshte features Suman Faruk and Jaya Ahsan in lead roles.

The supporting cast includes Shahiduzzaman Selim, Shahed Ali, Rikta Nandini Shimu, Shaheen Mridha, and Sathi.

Both films showcase Ahsan’s versatility and commitment to roles grounded in human experiences and regional narratives.

Bangladeshi audiences can now access Putul Nacher Itikotha and follow the journey of Kusum, Shashi, and Kumu on Hoichoi from November 14, 2025.

The release emphasises the continuing collaboration and cultural exchange between Indian and Bangladeshi cinema through literary adaptations.

Fans and critics alike are eagerly anticipating the streaming release, celebrating the chance to experience this acclaimed adaptation.
